research

In the research stage of this process, there were a few details I needed to nail down: what kind of soda I wanted to represent, what styling I could do to invoke ancient Greece, and who would be the mascot for the company.

The Olympian Queen Hera is the wife of Zeus and ruler of family, marriage, and fertility. She was often depicted in Ancient Greek art with a pomegranate, a symbol of fertility. My exploration of the goddess Hera led me to the discovery of 'black-figure pottery,' a distinctive style of ceramic art in Ancient Greece. This style, characterized by glossy black figures on vessels, could inspire a unique and elegant visual representation of the brand.

With this research, I had a great framework to work from:

  • The soda would be pomegranate flavored.

  • Black-figure pottery would inspire the appearance of the packaging.

  • The goddess Hera would be the mascot for the brand.
